 Calliphora vomitoria?

Picture taken last February, east China (Zhejiang province). I think the general body coloration is very similar to the Calliphora vomitoria pictures in this thread (https://diptera.i...pid=362526) but I don't see the diagnostic red hairs on the back of the head. Should C. vomitoria be ruled out? Or it is the very species? Many thanks in advance!

Yes, it is NOT vomitoria. you have several other options unknown to the western Palaearctic. Theo |

Thank you Theo for the link to the key. I took a very quick look and it seems to me if my specimen is a Calliphora, then C. pattoni could be a good candidate (but I need a better close-up pictures of the postgena characters to make sure the diagnostic orange-colored hairs are present or not). If my specimen is a Bellardia, B. pubescens might be worth considering (body length longer than 8mm). |
