If I remember correctly this is diptera larva, but I do not remember which group. They were found under the barj of a presumed spruce which fell to a brook and was largely rotten when found. Perhaps one of the Wood Midges (Lestremiinae, Cecidomyiidae). The orange colour is often associated with Cecidomyiidae.
