Hi,
Some days ago I saw several of these dark muscid males on hazel leaves. The peculiar front femora make them Hydrotaea, and the key by d'Assis Fonseca (https://www.royen...art04b.pdf) leads rather surely to H. cyrtoneurina with its densely hairy eyes. There are also very similar examples in the forum, but as I am still struggling with the identification of Muscidae, I'd prefer confirmation or correction of my ID. Thanks for help!
The location was southwestern Germany near Stuttgart.

This is the general habitus.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
