Hi, This Suillia male from 9th August was really huge, almost 15 mm! With his thick femora he looked like a heavyweight athlete that was almost too strong to move. I saw two of them in a forest in Baden-Wuerttemberg, southwestern Germany. They should belong to S. gigantea without doubt. In the plate below I give some characters that define the species. - Andrzej wrote that he was currently working on the group, so if there are new results, he will surely let us know. Meanwhile this will be my first, impressive Suillia gigantea! Sundew Sundew attached the following image: [256.05Kb] |
