Hi Eric,

that was also my first thought but I can't see any black stigma so I was confused.

Greetings

Hi Joerg, yes, the wings seem to be brownish and stigma is hard to see (depending on the angle?) and it's a little late for johannis, but the hairs seem to be completely black and metatarsus III distinctly thickend - that should exclude varipes.
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner

The tibiae look awfully black to me for johannis and 25 may is very late for johannis. I would consider reticulatus.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
