Hi,
I know, Psychodidae can hardly be identified from photographs. Is there a chance to confirm genus Pericoma? The fly was seen in a wetland in southwestern Germany west of Stuttgart on 04. August.
Thanks for help, Sundew

Difficult of course. I would say Pneumia, because Pericoma mostly have less broad wings.

I see... There was an interesting thread some years ago (https://www.dipte...d_id=59905), and there are some similarities between the flies. So Pneumia nubila and P. trivialis might be good guesses. However, I cannot see this particular facial hair tuft. The only (bad) picture that shows the face is given below - the face is hairy, but not so spectacularly. So it could be a female of P. nubila or a male of P. trivialis, but the latter is said to be much more grey and less brown. Alas, this must remain speculation.
Many thanks, Sundew

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
