 Rhinophoridae - Paykullia maculata, teneral

Hi, Yesterday I found this Rhinophorid in a wood, sitting on a cut log. It was about 5-6 mm long, and I thought of a female Rhinophora lepida, but I find the mouth edge less protruding and the stalk on vein R4+5 longer. Especially puzzling is the bicoloured frontal vitta that is light in the middle part. So what can it be, perhaps a Stevenia? Help is appreciated! Yes, this one is confusing. It is neither Rhinophora nor Stevenia, the facial bristles are lacking. The head profile is indeed characteristic ... for Paykullia. The darkening in the wing is lacking, this happens in very fresh specimens... Theo |

Ah - a teneral Paykullia maculata, that's it! There are pictures in the internet (e.g. https://www.flick...345652660/) that also show the peculiar frontal vitta that obviously turns dark later on. Many thanks for that hint! |
