Berlin - June 2018

I found this today around the garbage area of my apartment building. Very nice looking specimen.
is it possible to get a genus? I intend to examine the specimen when i have free time to do so.

I have a similar specimen but the abdomen is a different color. I will make a separate post because it could be a different species...

Thank you for your time.

Thank you, Tony. I must admit that i thought the other specimen was the newly emerged. I guess that i am used to spiders. Young spiders can be quite pale or transparent when they shed their skin. I am happy that you corrected me here. Very nice to know Smile

The red colour of this individual is from the haemoglobin, inherited from the larva. It will disappear over a short time, the melanin areas will darken, and mature colour will be achieved.

I have dissected the terminalia for a better view. Hopefully the genitalia confirms without doubt.

I'd say that was a good match for pedellus

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
