This species was spotted almost one month earlier than the another unknown genus asilid.. But this time I got the couple.

This asilid was spotted in middle July 2010 in Nave de Santo António - Serra da Estrela, at 1500 m.

Hope to get a genus name for this spectacular asilid!

I seems to be a male of a Lasiopogon species. Only L. cinctus and L. montanus are known from the Iberian peninsula, but this species doesn't fit. L. velutinus BEZZI, 1921 is synonyized with L. montanus - maybe this is wrong. CANNINGS (2002) listed it under "Uncertain placement" and revised only the Nearctic and East-Palaearctic species. There is a great possibility that this species isn't decribed yet. Unfortunately you have to check the types first - especially that of L. velutinus in Milan. Yours
