Hi, I have been wondering if it is H.muehlfeldi or not... Size is 13,5mm, captured 8 july 2010 in Vance (, a very nice fen. Because some features are missing, I am doubting its ID. (for instance, femur 1 exist mainly of black hairs, while H.muehlfeldi should have white hairs. The scutellum's pollosity is wrong. Notopleural lobe is wrong, it only has a very little spot of brown central..) On the other hand, its subgenital plate and cerci seem to be all right? (think so ) All hairs on spots on tergite 1-3 are black, only lateral, a few yellow ones. Hope this pictures will make ID possible. Habitus (! it seems it has white hairs on femur 1, but it are hairs from the thorax) http://www.flickr...869195922/ Zoom on femur 1: http://www.flickr...869196818/ Cerci and subgenital plate. http://www.flickr...869196586/ Another view on another angle (same specimen!) http://www.flickr...868549051/ Abdomen http://www.flickr...869196374/ Thanks in advance, Jonas Edited by jonas on 07-08-2010 17:15 |

Jonas, try to add pictures of head from frontal view and antennae. I think your animal dhould be H. bimaculata, but I am not sure from your pictures. Libor |

Hi, H.bimaculata crossed my mind as well, but the subgenital plate does not seem to fit with other H.bimaculata in my collection.. Allthough most other things fit I will post a picture of head frontal later this evening. Jonas |

Well, I see H. bimaculata. But wait for Theos' confirmation, I am not true expert. Libor |

Interesting. I tend to agree with Libor. The number of black hairs on femur 1 and the dark notopleural lobes rule out muehlfeldi. I cannot judge the subgenital plate, sorry, it is difficult but the pic is just not sharp enough. Habitus suggests bimaculata. And there is the 'possiblity' of solstitialis, an unclear taxon between bimaculata and muehlfeldi. SO, what are the colours of the hairs on the pleura (side of the thorax) ? Theo |
