Hello,
Plenty of them fly in a kitchen in Provence (Southern France).
Thanks to Paul's paper*, I get to Drosophila mercatorum on the base of the colors/spots of thorax and abdomen. But I'm not able to estimate the color of the costal vein so the doubt remains.

Is an ID to species possible with these pics?

The body coloration is relatively dark, 1st costal section darkened apically. It is D repleta.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
