Hello dipteropeoples. I think this is Cylindrotoma distinctissima but I'm not really sure about the wing venation. Found dead at a window in my home in Hasselt, Belgium on 03-09-2010. Size 10mm. R1 ends in R2-3, that's diagnostic for Cylindrotomidae. C. distinctissiima has 4 veins coming out distally from the discal cell. My guess is Diogma glabrata. Check Stubbs's draft key: http://radon.uio.no/http/Louis/craneflies/Cylindrotomidae.pdf but maybe there are species present in Belgium than in the UK. |

Thanks for the key Louis. In Stubbs' TIPULIDAE key to the genera it says: Antennal flagellar segments with a basal whorl of bristles regarding Nephrotoma so Nephrotoma it is... I should check my literature better before posting....

Now that helped!  Now I key out to Diogma glabrata as well. To be sure I took my tattered specimen again and looked for the black spot under the eye and it is obvious. Thanks very much Louis.
