Hi, One of the many that bit me during my holidays in the lake of Orta region in Italy last week. Can the image provided lead to an ID. I kept this specimen if additional features need to be looked at. Best regards, Widus Widus attached the following image: [236.69Kb] |

For Italian Culicdiae, you could try Severini, Francesco & Toma, Luciano & Di Luca, Marco & Romi, Roberto. (2009). Le zanzare italiane: Generalità e identificazione degli adulti (Diptera, Culicidae). Fragmenta Entomologica. 41. 213 - 372. (available at http://www.fragme...view/92/84 ) For European keys and descriptions. I use Becker, N., Petric, D., Zgomba, M., Boase, C., Madon, M.B., Dahl, C., Kaiser, A. 2010. Mosquitoes and Their Control. Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg. I believe there is a new edition published this year, so you may be able to get a used copy of this 2010 edition cheaply. Tony ---------- Tony Irwin |
