Hi, This Thereva female has black spots on frons disconnected so not the common Thereva nobilitata. Could it be Thereva oculata ? Belgium, 25-05-2012.about 11 mm. Christine Christine Devillers attached the following image: ![]() [137.54Kb] Edited by Christine Devillers on 16-12-2012 21:17 |

It is a weird species. To notice a remarkable point, the fron femora seem red. I agree the specimen keys out to Th. oculata. I do not have any experience with this species. It would be the first record for Belgium, at least according to faunaeur.org. I think a real expert needs to verify this. Theo |

Thanks a lot Theo. I've received a confirmation from a specialist of the Therevidae: it's a female of Thereva oculata. Christine Edited by Christine Devillers on 10-12-2012 18:28 |
