Hi, this Tachinidae was observed on april 14th in the north of Yonne department (France). Could it be a Phorocera assimilis ? Thanks for your expertise. General jizz is more like Smidta conspersa (to me): more red on scutellum, shorter and bulkier third antennal segment, prae-alar seems strong (though, agreed, out of focus) and no obvious fold to bend of vein m )(idem) Theo Edited by Zeegers on 27-04-2022 07:33 |

Thank you once again, Theo! I was in doubt - mainly because of the very red scutellum, the 3 dark stripes near the pre ac... But the Smidtia conspersa didn't come to my mind. Sorry Jean-Michel!

The exclusively white hairs on backside of head (behind occipital row) is relatively rare in Goniini/eryciini and hence a good clue. Theo |

Eklans pics very nicely show the more elongated abdomen, so characteristic for Phorocera and Exorista, but difficult to describe. You need a carpenter’s eye, as we say in Dutch. Theo |
