Hi Raimo, I think it's a female Chrysogaster virescens (antenna red, thorax shiny).

Greetings, Eric

Thanks. Its not so common here, why not a Chrysogaster coemiteriorum?

I'm not familiar with coemiteriorum but I thought it's thorax is more blackish?

Maybe, but my litterature (Nationalnyckeln) show a extended facial knob and mouth margin in the female virescens, like a beak.

I think it is a female of Chrysogaster solstitialis. In Chrysogaster coemiteriorum, they are more shiny and have lots of yellow at the bases of the wings.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
