Hello,

I photographed this fly near Ofena (AQ), Italy, 600m a.s.l. on February 24th 2020. I think it is a Heleomyzidae, but is it possible to identify the genus or species from these photos?

Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

It's a male of S. flagripes species-group. Sorry, but without a collected specimen, I'm not able to make a proper ID Frown

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
