Some Ceratopogonidae suck blood from meloid beetles. This Meloe violaceus was severe damaged after my dog stepped on it on a forest path. In minutes small midges appeared and started to pierce the beetle, some through its sick pronotum. Is Atrichopogon a good ID?

Yes, Atrichopogon is the right genus. The subgenus will be Meloehelea.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
