Hi,
On Saturday evening I met this female intending to sleep on a Centaurea flowerhead bud. I see a small red spot on the base of the mid tibia, only hairs and no bristles on the underside of femur 1, and yellow marginal bristles on the scutellum - this points to Machimus rusticus. Do you agree, or are there better candidates? Locality is southwestern Germany, 20 km west of Stuttgart.
Many thanks, Sundew

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
