Hello,
is this fly from June 27, 2020 from Leipzig (Saxony/Germany) a Merodon species (maybe avidus)?
Thanks for your help,
Maik

This is a female of the species formerly known as Merodon avidus. Popovic et al. (2015, https://www.resea..._Syrphidae) showed, however, that the "true" M. avidus was restricted to the Mediterranean region, whereas the sibling species found in the continental part of Europe is M. moenium. Therefore: female M. moenium, as Leipzig is not Mediterranean Wink

And I learned something again (sometimes I have the feeling that Leipzig is Mediterranean Smile). Thank you very much (also for the literature). Best regards, Maik

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
