Aprox. 5-6 mm. Found several specimens sun basking in a rocky seashore in Vigo (Spain)
Late october 2007.-

I agree, Rafael make wonderful photos. For the substrate, it is rather chalk rock ?

Thanks for the compliments and for the ID also.
In fact the fly was sun basking on top of a dead limpet shell in between the rocks.-
