Hello,
today (14.05.2020) I saw this fly on Leucanthemum vulgare in Leipzig (Saxony/ Germany), but I have no idea what this fly could be called…
Best regards
Maik

Wing venation points to Rhinophoridae, so it could be Phyto melanocephala. Compare here https://diptera.i...d_id=23586 and here https://diptera.i...d_id=21866 - in both cases there is this short blind vein on crossvein dm-cu, I have observed it several times, though it is not necessarily present. Change the title of the post to attract Theo for confirmation and explanation of the blind vein!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
