Hello,
Is it Rhamphina pedemontana? This species seems rather variable, at least in terms of color, but the proboscis puzzles me, comparing it with pinned specimens (2 here and 1 at tachinidae.eu) : shouldn't its curve make it point forwards?
Thanks in advance.

The proboscis of some American Tachinidae curves in a different direction in dried specimens.

Yes, the proboscis is flexible to some degree.
Moreover, you have two species of Rhamphina, need to check that.

The way I understand Herting (1971), is that the haustellum is flexible in pedemontana and rigid in rectirostris. Anyhow, this is Rh. pedemontana.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
