Hello! A 10 mm fly from the house yesterday night (Ostwestfalen/Germany). Is this a Phaonia (Muscidae)? Thanks in advance! Somewhat larger pic: http://www.foto-u...0mm_W2.jpg I know: one thread, one species. But this one (also 10 mm) isn't worth an own thread. I'm pretty sure, it's Muscina levida, right? http://www.foto-u...10mm_W.jpg Juergen Peters attached the following image: [46.64Kb] Edited by Juergen Peters on 27-10-2007 21:20 Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |

Juergen Your ID for the second fly is correct - I can't see any other orange except the scutellum tip, so M levida it is. (Of course, for an absolutely failsafe ID on this one, you need a view that shows the palps and antennae as well, but really, I am sure it is M levida.) Susan |

That seems to be by far the most abundant Muscina species here.
