Yes Gabor, it's Morellia. Difficult to give definitive ID, but given the frons width, the very dark scutum with pruinose midstripe somewhat shortened, could be Morellia simplex. Stephane. |

Thx Stephane. In Hungary only two species are common: simplex and hortuorum. How can you easily distinguish them? My keys rely on characters that are only visible from the lateral view, which I do not have, and many of them need a microscope anyways. If we had to compare males of M. simplex and M. hortorum, we could use the frons width : At narrowest point, M. simplex has almost touching orbital plates, M. hortorum has frons 1.5 times as wide as flagellomere. Stephane. |
