Hi,
is this one photo enough to identify the animal as Syrphus ribesii?
It is the only one I could take and I am not sure, if relevant details to identify are missing...
Found 14-July-2019 at Altrheinsee Eich near Mainz, Germany.
Many thanks and regards,
Stella

Hello Stella,

it is a Syrphus male and cannot be determined after photos in this resolution (not visible, if eyes are hairy). Look here (in german): https://insektenf...adID=93380
Best regards,
Jürgen

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
