Hi, I think this is a male of Pegomya bicolor. The palpi are yellow, the 3 dorsal preapical setae on hind tibia are equally long and the shape of sternite 5 seems right for this species. Do you agree? location: Barcelos (Portugal) date: 21/05/2019 Rui Andrade attached the following image: [111.7Kb] |

Thank you. I'm unable to make preparations of the genitalia and photos as good as yours, so I was hoping someone could confirm the identification with just these photos, but I understand the difficulty! |

I understand your point-of-view. I only have P. bicolor, so i lack the experience to judge this species without genitalia. I don't know if P. bicolor can be confused with any other Pegomya or not. Maybe Johanna will visit and post an opinion. it certainly looks like Pegomya bicolor but wait for an expert. I hope that you have a pleasant day. John and Nini. Naturalists not experts. |

Among the North American species Pegomya bicolor is the best match. I don't think there are any close relatives in Europe. |

Thank you very much John for your help. I think it is safe to label it P. bicolor. |
