Hi, tks to Paul Beuk for identifying these to the family. I couldn't see anything similar in the gallery, so it'd be great if they can be identified further. Seen these many times, but not recently. So hard to say much about size and habitat. Location: Chennai (Madras) India.

Also, if more than one image can be added to this thread, pls advice how.

Tks!

I stand corrected, luckily by myself. These larger images allowed for better examination and trying to identify this 'Xyloomyidae'I ended up nowhere. When I noticed the spines on the scutellum I know I was wrong. This is Adoxomyia heminopla, an apparently relatively common Indian species.

Tks very much yet again Paul! Also, I was rather lost when you mentioned about the venation. Could you point me to some literature where I can understand a bit about wing venation?

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
