another from Israel!   great. 6 August or 8 Juin? That?s why I use this form: 2007.08.06 (meaning 6 August 2007, more easy) --- YYYY.MM.DD... putting just DD/MM.DD/MM.YYYY can be confuse... |

I should day he meant the 6th of August, if he uses regular Israeli dates. I've read in some nature magazine that there over 750 (!) species of Assilidae in Israel, most of them grey like this, so isn't it really hard to tell them apart? P.S. So now there are two of us here?!  I'm from Jerusalem, where are you from? |

Oops... I replaced 1 with 7... I meant that in a book about the Assilids of Israel (From 1980) there are 150 described species, 73 of them were new then. |

this is by sure the best in all net concerning diptera. More reliable and trust IDs than other sites even comparing with wikipedia.  And lots of interesting articles. |

AH... that's why I stranged about the number... 750 would be a very high number of species just for that family. But there are some families that number of species can easily surpass that number. |

Looks like a female Philonicus cf albiceps to me, looking at the face. But no idea about similar species over there... |
