Found at La Selva Biological Station 16 Aug 2018. Female Pilica sp.? Unfortunately, this one was pretty wary and I didn't get a clear shot of proboscis or wings.

Andrenosoma (s.l.) cinereum, female. Pattern detail of silver tomentose bands on thorax & abdomen confirms ID of this widespread Andrenosomatini sp. (Mexico to Brazil). [Proboscis straight (lateral view), tapers to rounded tip (dors.-vent.)]

Cheers, Eric.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
