Hello all, This small (5 mm) but rather conspicuous fly was captured in my garden in Belgium on June 6th 2005. From a certain likeness with Chloromyia, I tought it might be a stratiomyidae ????? Any expert opinion ? Philippe http://users.skynet.be/fa213618 |

Appears to be Nemotelus uliginosus of the Stratiomyidae. Normally the are found near brackish water. Did you find it near the coast?

Thanks for the tip Paul. No indeed, I live between Liege and namur, bang in the middle of wheat and sugar beet country ! Philippe PS Glad I wasn't too far off on the family at least. |
