Call it Empis for now. The South American Empis may belong in a different genus. See http://www4.ncsu....ogeny.html.

Looking at Collin, 1933. 239-241pp Diptera of Patagonia and South Chile vol 4

This looks like Empis macrura

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
