Hi Black, Hmmm... you're making it quite difficult for me. Your first assumption, Tephritis conjuncta, is not the right name for this animal. But that's a nomenclatural solution. The name T. conjuncta is synonymous. Two authors described a species with this name, both later assigned to Tephritis. Loew in 1844 as Trypeta conjuncta, now accepted as a junior synonym of T. neesii Meigen, 1830. The second author, Hendel, described Tephrits conjuncta Hendel, 1927, which referes T. separata Rondani, 1871. But the name conjuncta Hendel, 1927 is a secondary homonym! Anyways. Your species does look related to T. neessii and also to T. separata, but for the moment I can't tell you which species it is, therefore I need to consult my collection. And the species T. rasa is not known to me... I see that it's a Seguy species from the pyrenees. I'll look into it! John |

Many thanks John. Sorry for all this confusion. I referred to Seguy's T. conjuncta (Loew, 1862), Pl. XV, fig. 180, and T. rasa (Pandell?), fig. 179, the latter with the remark ''C'est peut-?tre le Tephritis rufina de Rondani comme l'a suppos? Pandell?''. I caught some distinct T. nesii, too. The Nomenclator at the Diptera site is down, so I can't search further... |
