Found draught indoors, June 23rd, 2018, Iberian Peninsula: Catalonia: Girona: Beuda, 400 m. Could be Isoneuromyia or Pyratula, as I don’t get clear if the tibial setae are in regular rows or irregularly arranged. Maybe I took a wrong path elsewhere? It looks different to all the species of both genus I have seen, but there are some species without described nor drawn genitalia (i.e. Isoneuromyia czernyi). Last tergite ended in three lobes, the mid one straight.

Total length: 5.0 mm (including last tergite T9 covering genitalia). Wing length: 4.1 mm. Protibia (tibia I) length: 1.625 mm (=65/40 mm). Protarsi I (fore basitarsi) length: 1.250 mm (=50/40 mm). Ratio tibia I /basitarsi I= 1.3.

Most probably Neoplatyura biumbrata, male.

Yes!, I was looking at the posterior spiracle and so I got the wrong path. In the anterior spiracle there are some hairs in the upper/posterior margin. Also A1 reaches wing margin (more visible in the upper right picture). And genitalia fits well enough (i would need a microscope), the other three european species don't fit. Thanks!

For images of Isoneuromyia czernyi, check Mantic & Sevcik, 2017 (Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 57 (2): 751-764)

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
