I saw this Soldier fly in the Danube Delta , Romania .It looks very similar to ---Common Green Colonel - Oplodontha viridula, but the eyes are green and the thorax much paler .Is it the same species or a close relative ? Can anyone help me out with the correct ID please ? This was spotted on September 3rd .

Hi creaturesnapper,

Please also mention the date of capture as that can be helpful. Despite that, I'd say Odontomyia angulate, because the scutellum and head between the eyes is pale. The thorax looks paler due to the angle of the photo. It could as well be a throax of a female Oplodontha…

Kind regards,

Ectemnius
