Good evening,
Here is a Culicidae larva found in a pond in northern France this week:
www.galerie-insecte.org/galerie/image/dos213/temp/larve%20moustique%20LaPotasse%2028aout2018%20GH.JPG
I think it is an Anopheles, but without any idea of the species.
Can you help me to determine it, I do not have a document that allows it.
thank you,
Guénael.

Some of the required detail is not visible in the photo, but the pattern of dark marks on the head is typical of the Anopheles maculipennis complex. Unfortunately I don't think there is any way to separate the species using morphological characters.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
