Hallo Theo,
my answer
a.) The length of my fly has been estimated to be 23 mm from head to wingtip
b.) In the eye you can see a bandage at high magnification. ( see photo)
c.) Tabanus bromius --> length 11,5 mm bis 19,5 mm (Wikipedia)

Theo, is the name Tabanus bromius??

Viele Grüße,
Klaus

Yes, it is the female of bromius. The other species don’t have eye bands. You must have overestimated its length, this often happens in living specimens.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
