male Hylemya? I think that it looks similar to my H. vagans specimen.
i think that 8.3mm is more accurate.
have you examined genitalia?

Hello John and Nini,
I'm just an amateur and using a cellphone with x20 magnifying glass. These are the best images of it's genitalia that I can manage.
Thank You
Ray

Hello Ray,

i don't have keys to Hylemya. I only have H. vagans specimen, which i've identified via genitalia. I haven't seen Johanna for a long time now. She has keys. The genitalia needs to be dissected and cleared for better viewing. The cerci and surstyli are not visible in these photos. You will have to wait for a response from Johanna. I've tried to find keys with no luck. I only have pdf file with drawings of genitalia. sorry.

I recommend leaving it Hylemya cf vagans for now.

I hope that you have a pleasant day,
John

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
