Hello!

This yellow and black 25 mm Ichneumonid vistited Angelica sylvestris blossoms at a damp place in the wood two days ago (Ostwestfalen/Germany). Is it possible to say more than just Ichneumonidae sp.? Thanks in advance!

Good evening J?RGEN!
Did you catch this ichneumon?
I do not manage to recognize it and it seems to to me that I know it!

With the Museum of Munich, my friends do not know either!

No, sorry. I am only a hobby photographer and normally do not collect specimens.
Best regards,

that's an amazing wasp and photos as well. I see that Ichneumonidae are hard (i knew..). But it would be great to know at least the genus. Smile

Fantastic, many thanks! This was really an opulent wasp, as the species name indicates... Grin

Date was September-15, 2007. In forest near 33829 Borgholzhausen, Germany, MTB 3815. MTB means "Messtischblatt", which is a quadrant in the official topological maps (1:25000).
I have also tried to find the coordinate with Google Maps. That gives me: 52.115651, 8.304763. I'm not sure, what that precisely means...
Best regards,
Jürgen

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
