Yes, that is a female and yes, that is an ovipositor. Also note the field of thorns on sternite 2 ! Female Cylindromyia auriceps. Theo |

Hi Theo, why not C. interrupta with posterior ventral edge of tergite 2 swollen and studded with little spikes ? (Tschorsnig p. 71) Edited by evdb on 04-08-2018 21:42 Eugene |

@Eugene: the pattern on thorax is different and there seem to be apical scutellar bristles. Females of both species have the thorns you mentioned. Theo |
