female - 5mm (excluding ovipositor) - Berlin - May 2018 i found it near the garbage area of my apartment building, so host data not available. i do not read much about Tephritidae, so i'm not sure if there is anything similar. edit: i don't find alot of Tephritidae, so i usually do not read about them. I think that it matches Rhagoletis meigenii morphologically. please let me know if dna is necessary for id. I have a specimen. Thank you for your time. johnes81 attached the following image: [48.78Kb] Edited by johnes81 on 01-06-2018 15:59 John and Nini. Naturalists not experts. |

You're most probably right - key to West Palearctic spp. of Rhagoletis with nice photos of wings etc. in Korneyev et al., 2017 (Vestnik zoologii, 51(6): 453-470)

Thank you, Sir Dmitry. I appreciate your time. You are very nice and helpful always. I remember that you helped me acquire some Bombyliidae documents. I hope to help you in return someday. I didn't know about this document that you reference. I searched Google and i found it at researchgate. Usually Tephritidae keys are outdated documents or one has to request a copy of a document. I only have the outdated British document for Tephritidae. I don't usually find Tephritidae, so i do not read about them. I know that some of them can be determined by the wing pattern but i cannot remember which ones. Anyway, i cropped and rotated one of my macro photos to compare the wing and it matches the wing in the pdf perfectly. vide attachment. I found another one today, so i wonder if Berberis is nearby. I do not not see this plant in the vicinity of my building but it must be somewhere nearby. Very interesting. Thank you. Hopefully one day i can help you in return Edited by johnes81 on 07-04-2020 10:46 John and Nini. Naturalists not experts. |
