Hi Dick, It is an Ephydridae. But it has something very interesting on its legs. The fruitingbodies of a fungus, Laboulbeniales. If it is an Ephydridae, and indeed has the fungus on it. That would be new for the fauna. Did you collect it? Greetings Ectemnius |

This is a Pelina species - either similis or aenea (I would need to see the specimen to say which). The laboul. Stigmatomyces trianguliapicalis has been recorded from Pelina aenea, and this is most likely the species involved here.

Hi Dick, Do you still have the specimen? How is it preserved? Stigmatomyces trianguliapicalis would be an interesting addition in molecular analyses. The identification is based on host identity and this fungus parasitizes two host genera -- Parydra and Pelina, which calls for confirmation based on sequence data. Please send me a note if you wouldn't mind sending it for molecular work. Danny Danny Haelewaters https://dannyhaelewaters.com https://twitter.com/dhaelewa |

Thanks Tony! We do not have aenea in the Netherlands...yet. Very interesting combination. I still have the fly but it is not alive anymore. Just cool and dry. Not on alcohol yet. Danny I will sent you an email. Gr Dick |

Hi Danny & Dick, If Dick would send his specimen would you be interested in another Ephydridae with laboulbeniales from the Netherlands? It is a Philygria sp. If so, send me a pm. Kind regards, Ectemnius |
