Hello,

In the gall of Hexomyza simplicoides (under the bark) I found, among other things, two pupae of a parasitoid. According to the description species of the genus Sphegigaster develop in this gall. What do you think, can it be this genus?

Germany, Saarland, Bexbach, April 2018, Absolute Altitude 249 m.

Thanks Volker

Hello Volker,

It is a Eurytomidae, not a Pteromalidae. The shining and laterally slightly compressed abdomen with the heavily punctated thorax and head indicate this. They live in seeds and galls, so no surprise it turns up in Hexomyza galls. On bugguide a Eurytomidae is recorded from Hexomyza galls: https://bugguide.net/node/view/735603/bgimage

Kind regards,

Ectemnius

Hello Ectemnius,

thank you for the identification of the genus. A species determination will not be possible with the help of an image?
