Hi Jfdocampo,

Habitus and 'M' shaped mark on frons indicate the genus Desmometopa. The pale haltere, yellow basal tarsal segments on mid and hind leg, yellow cheek without black shining mark and basal pale palpus indicate: Desmometopa varipalpis Malloch, 1927.
From the first photo I'd say a female. Nice find!

Regards,

Ectemnius

Thanks Tony and Ectemnius. So pleased to identify it at species level.

This one I found some days after in my house too, I think it's the same. Is it? A female too?

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
