Body 3mm long. Strongly humped thorax, well-developed coxae, and long, spinose legs.
Found on outside window sill. 4th Nov. 2017. Flensburg, N.Germany.
Is this one of the Mycetophilidae family? Any guesses at the genera?

Thanks in advance

I would say Brevicornu sp.
Species of Brachypeza are more robust, not so dark and they have strong vein CuP (below Cu-fork).

Hi Rey, believe me, it is Brevicornu for 90 %, and for 10 % Allodia, but not Brachypeza. Btw, B. obscura is an extremely rare species, mostly yellowish brown in colour, like all Brachypeza.
A male would be easier to identify, of course.

Thank You Jan.
I also opt for Brevicornu.

I really appreciate all the assistance you people at Diptera.info give. I'm a absolute amateur and find it fascinating to delve into this multi-faceted world of little creatures which I've foolishly overlooked most of my life. So rewarding to get identificationsSmile

Regards
Ray

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
