I´m not a expert in Diptera, but I think this looks like a Polyporivora ornata.

Best regards

Thank you very much for ID, Truls Lerdahl.
With the species name I looked in the Platypezidae gallery. There I found a second species of the same genus - Polyporivora picta which has a black scutellum like my fly. The Polyporivora ornata in the gallery has a white one. Could the fly be a Polyporivora picta? Is the colour of the scutellum characteristic for the species?

I checked a lot of pictures of Polyporivora, and it seems that P.ovata have white scutellum and P.picta have black scutellum. So if I have understand it right, your must be a P.picta. But I´m sure here is experts that could tell you more about it.....

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
