I am fairly sure this is a female Tachina fera (near Apeldoorn, NL on 10/09/2017) but I'm not sure about the front legs. In the key it says that T. magnicornis females have segment 4 of the front tarsus clearly wider than long. How do you count them? Do you start at the claws and count towards the tibia (that would make number 4 longer than wide) or do you start at the end of the tibia and count towards the claws (that means segment 4 is the one with the water drop and it is wider than long)? You always with anything start in the centre of the body, so in the centre of the thorax. Hence, in this case, fourth = one-but-last segment. There is no one feature to separate females magnicornis from fera. I'd say this is fera without reasonable doubt. Theo |
