Most likely not (not recorded in Greece and looks too different). But it is a female Dasypogon sp. for sure.

In Greece you have: melanopterus, gerardi, kugleri, octonotatus and tsacasi.

Reinoud IDed a rather similar one as a possible D.octonotatus not long ago:

https://diptera.i...d_id=80392

But again, it is a very difficult genus that needs male genitalia for a positive ID.

Thanks for your reply.
I did consider D. diadema because according to FE its distribution includes Greece.

David

According to Tomasovic 1999, D. diadema is more a Western species. Unless it has been discovered in all those eastern countries in recent years, which also can be.

But your fly doesn't fit the description of D. diadema, (which is a very variable species in colours by the way, but I have never seen such an aberrant colouration in that species) and fits rather nicely that of D. octonotatus. However I am totally unfamiliar with the species of Greece so I feel a bit uneasy giving an opinion... Sorry I cannot help you more.

Good, I'll file it as an uncertain D. octonotatus, thanks again.

David
