Found by sweeping chalk grassland flora (mainly Sawwort, Serratula) in S. Wilts, UK, 30 July 17. There were several vectensis in the net with it, but this looks different: it’s a male, but with the wings of a female vectensis, however the scutum mark is more like virens, but it doesn’t have the white tergal setae of that group. bioimages attached the following image: [279.6Kb] Malcolm Storey www.bioimages.org.uk (Two wings good, four wings better!) |

T. colon with typical black hairs on tergites. Coloration is quite variable, especially wings might be without any spots. Species is living in Centaurea scabiosa, which is in my region typical for chalk grassland flora. Regards Piet |

I would have said this is T. vectensis, as is the female from 2015. I think it's the male and female from 2016 that you need to check, as they look rather unusual. |
