I'm sure that this photo may not be of much help. It is the only one I was able to take of this beautifull fly. The first thing that took my attention were its eyes, therefore I just shot as close as I could. She/he gave me no more chances, but what I do remember is the "body" was slender, darkish-blue and sizing abt 1 cm. She mas buzzing arround my garden in an urban area. Stratiomyidae. Hermetia illucens. I have a similar photo here http://www.flickr...625&size=l It is very curious because today in the field I saw Asilidae eating a ... Hermetia illucens!!! It has transparent abdomen. IT looks like two tiny windows. (take off the wings and take a look to dorsal abdomen in anterior part) Edited by jorgemotalmeida on 21-08-2007 16:37 |
